Agility in Education Sector

                                                     Agility in Education Sector

Now is the time for Education sector to embrace agility to expand the learning horizon for students.

Manifesto for Agile Software Development is as folliwng (AgileManifesto.org © )

We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it.Through this work we have come to value:

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools

 Working software over comprehensive documentation

 Customer collaboration over contract negotiation

Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

We could connect the agile manifesto to today’s education to develop responsible and knowledgeable citizens.

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools :

As education need to be more person oriented and customized for individual aspirations, social needs , plenty of opportunity exists to customize the education

as per the local needs of the society and have  personal interest taken care. This also brings in the collaboration opportunities for students to work together

in the early stage, understand how to become self organized in the environment, how to create a commitment for the study topics with the help from teachers and

continue to work towards achieving that with self discipline.

Working software over comprehensive documentation :

Having focus on practical learning, experiments, demonstration of what is learnt, do research and create faster learning experiences.

Customer collaboration over contract negotiation :

Understanding the learning objectives, challenges of students and modifying the curriculum as per the immediate need rather than following a fixed study plan.

This will create more interest in students and create meaningful and relevant knowledge building. There are challenges of various types (eg. Environmental,

agricultural, social) in various societies. Linking local curriculum to the current needs of the immediate surrounding and connecting that to the scientific

aspects provides a different avenue for students to excel and solve the problems much efficiently and with lesser turnaround time.

Responding to change over following a plan :

Providing the learning opportunity as per the students’ needs and learning capabilities rather than following a fixed plan. This mode of thinking should help

educational institutions to be flexible in selecting topics, having feedback from students on frequent basis and recalibrating the academic curriculum for short

term as well as for long term benefits.

To help students to understand what they could learn,  take ownership for what they could learn in a specified time and see how they can achieve it.
